Portraits of Nations is an ongoing series of abstract works that explore the inner life of contemporary nations—not through maps or monuments, but through mood, emotion, and color. Each painting draws from the palette of a country’s flag, yet departs from nationalistic symbols to reflect deeper, more personal impressions: power, peace, cruelty, resilience, beauty, or fragility.
This is not a political statement but an emotional dialogue. The intent is not to depict a nation as it claims to be, but as it feels to me now— as a witness. Each work stands as a psychological portrait, shaped by the current climate, history, and my own intuitive response to the nation’s presence in the world.
The result is a visual atlas of feeling—recognizable, perhaps, in color, but open to interpretation in form. Some nations radiate serenity. Others bleed. Some stand cold and sharp, others luminous and unguarded.
These works invite viewers to look past the surface of geopolitics and consider: how does a nation feel in this moment? And how do we, individually, respond to that feeling?
